Storeys Way, Cambridge - Enterprise Heritage

STOREYS WAY, CAMBRIDGE

  • Complete refurbishment and extension, following an arts and crafts theme, of 34 Storeys Way, built in 1925
  • Year of completion: 2008

Originally commissioned by a botanist and college fellow, 34 Storeys Way is an impressive property which once incorporated a service wing. The servants’ bell-board found in the house has been restored, although unfortunately not to working condition, and now hangs in the hall as a memento of a bygone age.

By means of minimal intervention, the careful refurbishment has maintained much of the original structure, and the annexe addition has been constructed in complementary style. A number of existing features have also been retained, including reproduction of the render design on the front of the building and many original fire surrounds.

Outside, the garden has been returned to its former glory, preserving the formal design of lawns and flower beds with Yorkstone walls and steps. A rustic timber summerhouse at the bottom of the garden has been cleaned and treated and now boasts a brand new thatched roof.

After years of disuse, during which time the house fell into virtual dilapidation, 34 Storeys Way now provides a luxurious family home. The spacious accommodation – comprising seven bedrooms, five bathrooms, numerous living areas and large, fully fitted kitchen with high specification integrated appliances – includes an indoor swimming pool and spa complex, housed in the annexe.
